Please follow these steps to verify tax setup in Shopify
For additional guidance on correct tax settings, please review this Shopify help document on taxes and seek the advice of a tax lawyer if there is any doubt
- Open "Shopify Admin" and click "Settings"
- Click "Taxes and Duties"
- If tax is included in your prices, select the checkbox "Include sales tax in product price and shipping rate"
- If it is necessary in your region, click "charge tax on shipping rate"
- Review the Regional Settings. A region needs to be set up for each region where tax needs to be collected. Under 'Collecting Tax', you should see the tax rate you are collecting for each region.
- If it is blank ( - ), the specific tax rate needs to be added. Click on the region, then click 'Collect VAT' to configure your specific tax rate. Please make sure to Update VAT registration where necessary as well.
- Click Turn On under ‘Duties and import taxes’
- Edit any settings necessary to finish configuring Duties and Import taxes
- On the main Tax page, if there are products not configured to collect tax, you will see this yellow banner. Click "Edit variants"
- Click to enable checkboxes for every product that should have tax charged.
- Click Save once all products that charge tax have a checkmark.
If you changed tax settings during this guide, please review your displayed prices on product pages and at checkout to make sure everything is still displayed correctly now that taxes are being calculated correctly!
