Please follow these steps to verify tax setup in Shopify
For additional guidance on correct tax settings, please review this Shopify help document on taxes and seek the advice of a tax lawyer if there is any doubt
- Open Shopify Admin and click Settings
- Click Taxes and Duties
- Click charge tax on shipping rates ONLY if that is necessary in your region.
- If tax is included in your prices, select the checkbox:
- Review the Regional Settings. A region needs to be set up for each region where tax needs to be collected. Under 'Collecting Tax', you should see the tax rate you are collecting for each region.
- If it is blank ( - ), the specific tax rate needs to be added. Click on the region, then click 'Collect VAT' to configure your specific tax rate. Please make sure to Update VAT registration where necessary as well.
- Click Set up under ‘Duties and import taxes’
- Click "Edit variants"
- Click to enable checkboxes for every product that should have tax charged.
- Click Save once all products that charge tax have a checkmark.
