How to install the ProfitMetrics tracking tag on Lasso checkouts for Shopify

Load the ProfitMetrics server-side hybrid tag on a Lasso checkout through Google Tag Manager, and pick the right Google Ads conversion actions for Lasso orders.

Lasso loads a Google Tag Manager (GTM) container on its checkout, and the ProfitMetrics tag runs inside that container. Setup takes three steps: create a container, add it to Lasso, then add the ProfitMetrics tag. The last section covers Google Ads, because conversion tags in this container can’t be matched to profit.

Two settings are switched on by ProfitMetrics support. Email support@profitmetrics.io and ask them to enable headless mode and the tracking script on your website.

GTM access Permission to create and publish a container in Google Tag Manager.

Step 1: Create a GTM container

If you already have a GTM container you want to use for the Lasso checkout, skip to Step 2.

  1. In Google Tag Manager, create a new container in your account.
  2. Choose Web as the target platform.
  3. Copy the container ID. It starts with GTM- and is shown at the top of the workspace.

Step 2: Add the container to Lasso

The container ID goes in Lasso’s Google Ads integration settings.

  1. In Lasso, go to Integrations → Google Ads and click Configure.
  2. Enter your container ID, for example GTM-XXXXXXX.
  3. Click Update Configuration.

Step 3: Add the ProfitMetrics tag in GTM

Add the ProfitMetrics server-side hybrid tag to the container. The Public ID is the only setting you need to fill in.

  1. In GTM, go to Tags and click New.
  2. Under Tag Configuration, choose the ProfitMetrics server-side hybrid tag.
  3. Paste your website’s Public ID into the Public ID field.
  4. Under Triggering, add a trigger with the type DOM Ready, set to fire on All DOM Ready Events.
  5. Save the tag, then click Submit and publish the container.

Google Ads conversion actions for Lasso orders

The transaction ID in Lasso’s dataLayer doesn’t match the order ID that Shopify sends to ProfitMetrics. A Google Ads conversion tag in this container reports the Lasso transaction ID, so ProfitMetrics can’t match those conversions back to the order’s profit.

The ProfitMetrics tag still records the customer’s email address and tracking information on the checkout. ProfitMetrics sends its server-side-only conversion actions to Google Ads itself once the Shopify order arrives, so they don’t rely on the Lasso transaction ID.
