Google Tag Gateway and ProfitMetrics

Google Tag Gateway works out of the box with ProfitMetrics. After completing the Google Tag Gateway Setup, no changes to your ProfitMetrics tags are needed.

What is Google Tag Gateway?

Google Tag Gateway is a free solution from Google that lets you serve Google tags from your own domain (1P) rather than from Google's infrastructure (3P). Instead of loading scripts from a Google-owned domain, they are routed through a path on your own website, making them behave as first-party content in the browser.

The main benefits are improved signal recovery and longer-lived Google cookies. When cookies are set in a first-party context, browsers are less likely to restrict or shorten their lifetime, which helps Google recognize users across sessions, across devices, and when they are logged into their Google account.

Does it work with ProfitMetrics?

Yes, out of the box. Google Tag Gateway does not interfere with ProfitMetrics Tracking in any way.

You do not need to make any changes to your ProfitMetrics configuration. ProfitMetrics Tracking will continue to work exactly as before. Google does not offer yet an integration for Shopify.

Will it improve measurement if I already use ProfitMetrics?

Potentially, yes. Since ProfitMetrics already runs server-side tracking, you will not see the same conversion lift as a store relying entirely on client-side tracking. The largest gap that Google Tag Gateway addresses is already covered by your existing setup.

That said, there are still incremental benefits. Longer-lived Google cookies improve cross-device attribution and help Google recognize signed-in users more reliably. This strengthens the audience signals fed into Smart Bidding, which can improve bidding quality over time.

Does ProfitMetrics help with the setup?

No. Setting up Google Tag Gateway requires changes at the DNS, CDN, or server infrastructure level on your end. This is outside the scope of ProfitMetrics support.

Please follow Google's official documentation to complete the setup:
